The Opportunity
Magna is seeking experienced Food Safety Auditors to support our expanding client portfolio.
This role is suitable only for candidates with demonstrable experience auditing recognised food safety standards such as BRCGS or SALSA.
You will work with a diverse range of food manufacturers, producers, and catering businesses, conducting internal audits, gap analyses, and compliance reviews to help organisations meet certification and retailer requirements.
This role will begin on a freelance contract basis, with potential to transition into a permanent position as our consultancy continues to grow.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct internal audits and gap analyses against recognised food safety standards
- Audit client operations against BRCGS, BRCGS START, and SALSA requirements
- Review food safety management systems, HACCP plans, and prerequisite programmes
- Provide clear audit reports and practical recommendations to support compliance
- Support businesses preparing for certification or retailer audits
- Travel to client sites across the UK
Essential Requirements
Applications that do not meet the criteria below will not be considered.
- Minimum 3+ years experience working within food safety auditing, technical, or quality roles
- Demonstrable experience auditing against BRCGS and/or SALSA standards
- Strong working knowledge of HACCP principles and food safety management systems
- Experience within food manufacturing, food production, or large-scale catering environments
- Ability to conduct structured audits and produce professional audit reports
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel
This role is not suitable for candidates whose experience is limited to operational food safety roles without auditing experience.
Desirable
- BRCGS or GFSI scheme Lead Auditor training
- Experience supporting businesses through BRCGS or SALSA certification
- Consultancy or third-party auditing experience
- Level 4 Food Safety or equivalent technical qualification
